Neuromodulator Treatment for excessive sweating and TMJ disorders

Neuromodulators can effectively treat individuals who suffer from excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis) and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain associated with jaw clenching and grinding.

Excessive Underarm Sweating – Hyperhidrosis

Neuromodulator treatment for underarm sweating works by blocking the nerve signals responsible for sweating and stopping the gland from producing too much sweat. It involves several tiny injections in the armpits.

  • An iodine-starch test will be performed on both armpits to determine the area for treatment. The presence of sweat will cause the mixture to turn blue/black and will guide the injector to map out the areas to be treated. A topical numbing cream will be applied. Once the skin is numb, the site will be cleansed with an antiseptic solution, and small injections will be administered, totalling 50 units per armpit.

  • Results can be noticed as soon as one week after treatment and can last up to 6 months. After your first treatment, we recommend scheduling appointments based on your body's needs.

Expected benefits: decreased underarm sweat, improvement in self-esteem and self-confidence, increased involvement in social activities/relationships, and increased motivation to perform physical activity and exercise.

  • Insurance benefits do NOT always cover hyperhidrosis treatment with a neuromodulator.

    For clients using insurance:

If you plan on using your insurance to cover the cost of this treatment, you will need to complete the following before your appointment.

    1. Seek preapproval before incurring the cost of the treatment. Preapproval often requires the completion of insurance forms. These forms will need to be completed by your primary care provider (i.e., a family doctor or nurse practitioner) and submitted for approval.

For both insurance and self-paying clients:

You will need to demonstrate the following criteria to be a candidate for this procedure:

    • Reports symptoms greater than six months.

    • Describes symptoms to be in both armpits.

    • Displays no nighttime sweating (unless menopausal).

    • Is aged 25 years of age and older.

    • Has a family history of hyperhidrosis.

    • Reports a quality-of-life impediment.

Session Time: 60 minutes

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Pain – Jaw Clenching/Grinding

Neuromodulators can be an effective treatment for individuals who suffer from pain due to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain from jaw clenching and grinding. Neuromodulators can help to relax the muscles in your jaw, specifically, the masseter muscle. This can help to reduce pain and increase the movements of the mouth.

  • Treatment involves injecting the masseter muscles (jaw muscles). Depending on the severity of your pain, the temporalis muscle (temple muscles) may also be injected. The skin will be cleansed with an antiseptic solution, and small injections will be administered.

  • Slight relief may be felt 2-3 days after treatment, but the full effect typically takes 7-10 days. We recommend repeating this treatment every 3 to 4 months for optimal results.

Expected benefits: relaxation of jaw muscles, preventing unconscious jaw movement/grinding.

  • Seek preapproval before incurring the cost of the treatment.

    • Have tried and failed multiple conservative measures. This may include having been assessed by an oral surgeon before your appointment.

IV Vitamin Therapy

IV vitamin therapy helps to provide nutrition to the body by delivering fluids into a vein. It transports hydration and nutrients directly to your bloodstream. There are specific types of IV therapy that efficiently administer vitamins, minerals, and hydration to the body through an IV drip. Please contact us today to set up a consultation to see what vitamin therapy is best for you.

  • An Intravenous (IV) will be inserted into a vein connected to an IV bag containing the prescribed medication. Once attached to your vein, the solution slowly drips into your bloodstream.

  • The process is both fast-acting and effective. Because the nutrients are delivered straight into your bloodstream, they can travel to your organs to be absorbed.

Expected benefits include rehydration, increased energy, a boosted immune system, help to promote healthy skin, help with nutritional deficiencies, reduced stress and anxiety, and suitable for cardiovascular health.

Session Time: 45 minutes

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a medical aesthetic procedure used to treat spider veins and some smaller varicose veins effectively. Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution directly into the vein to cause the vein to scar and reroute blood through healthier veins. The vein then collapses, reabsorbed into the body’s surrounding tissue, and eventually fades.

  • A sclerosing agent will be injected into the spider veins. This will cause an inflammatory response that closes the vein.

  • Results can be seen in 3 to 6 weeks. The results of sclerotherapy are permanent. We recommend scheduling a follow-up appointment at the 6-week mark to check the treatment progress and add additional treatment if needed.

Expected benefits include pain relief and reduction of unsightly spider veins.

  • Before undergoing sclerotherapy treatment, a thorough consultation with the doctor must be performed to rule out any contraindications that may result in unsatisfactory results. You will not have your sclerotherapy treatment done during this appointment. Once the criteria are met during your initial visit with the doctor, you can book your sclerotherapy treatment on our online booking page by choosing "Sclerotherapy - Treatment Appointment.”

  • A complete patient assessment and anatomical structure review for treatment candidacy will be performed. A review of any imaging results, if applicable, that were done before the evaluation may also be viewed. The doctor will ensure there are no clinical health contraindications or anatomical restrictions. The patient will also be given a prescription for compression stockings for their treatment date.
